The Beehive Trail & the Bowl
A 1.3 mile hike with 450 feet of elevation gain, we climbed the Beehive trail our first day at Acadia National Park. It provides excellent views of Sand Beach (seen in some of the pictures) and other parts of the Island such as Champlain Mountain. The entire climb of this hike is done over the first .2 miles which explains the iron rung and ladder climbing. After climbing to the top of Beehive, we descended to the Bowl trail which leads to a small 9.5 acre pond in the woods. Along the walk to the Bowl, we found the trail lined with wild Blueberry bushes! When we reached, the Bowl we could admire the view of Champlain Mountain and we stayed there for quite awhile just taking in the pond's beauty. The Bowl was formed when a alpine glacier melted which makes the wooded lake very deep (though I am not sure of it exact depth and we didn't swim in it!). We included a slide show and a few pictures below identifying some of the sites in the park.
